Yamaha YMRD-2900A Marimba at Winter NAMM 2004

The YMRD-2900A is a 4½ multi-frame II marimba based on a combination of the YM-4900 resonator design and YMRD-2400 bar and frame design. The wide body design for lower bars enables superior tone and projection. The Acoustalon bars with Sonic Tone Holes provide the closest sound to Rosewood, with unparalleled durability and consistency in all types of weather. While the height adjustment capability is both smooth and convenient, the square reinforced frame still maintains a sleek and modern look. Durability has not been compromised and the 6-in. wheels make pushing the marimba over grass, turf or gravel easy.
Designed primarily for use in marching pit ensembles, the instrument features a 1½-in. square pipe on three sides, pneumatic height-adjustment system (35 in. - 40 7/8 in.), a crossbar with dual angle braces, 6-in. casters with in-line locks on the playing side and includes four RDC-10 clamps and mallets. The marimba has a range of 4½ octaves (F21 - C76) and Acoustalon bars sized 1 ½ in. to 2 1/5 in. wide by 7/8 in. thick. Rosewood bars are also available by special order and sold separately.

"After three years of research and development, we have taken the best-sounding synthetic marimba and made a 4½ version with one of the best selling frames in the industry," states Troy Wollwage, Manager, Percussion. "The YMRD-2900A required new thinking when designing the low end of the instrument. The resonator and wide bar designs are made to produce a powerful resonant sound that maintains quality Rosewood-like sound, while retaining its compact and practical design."
The new marimba will be available in April on a special order basis.
