Yamaha Drums combines the time-tested strengths of digital technology research with advanced drum manufacturing in the new DTXTREME IIS electronic drum system. Targeted for March 2004 delivery, the DTXTREME IIS features a 6-piece configuration with three cymbal pads. Upgrades include a new rack, great feeling pads, sampling capabilities and a selection of physically modeled voices from the award-winning Yamaha Motif product line—stereo acoustic instruments, ambient textures and the best waveforms from Yamaha's top-end synthesizers.

New, soft 3-zone rubber pads offer players the ultimate in performance comfort, natural feel and rebound. Each pad includes individual controls for pitch and pad selection, while snare pads also feature adjustable dampening control. The high hat controller combines an acoustic-type stand with electronic pads for a traditional look and feel.
"While the original Yamaha DTXTREME was developed primarily for the professional musician, the new DTXTREME IIS offers the electronic drum enthusiast the best value on the market, whether they're a full-time drummer or an upscale hobbyist," states Dave Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums.
Onboard electronics include 1,757 realistic drum voices, 128 GM voices, up to 90 preset drum kits, 40 user kits, 164 preset songs, up to 32 user-created songs, the Groove Check practice feature and an easy-view backlit display. More than 8 MB of voices, kits or songs may be stored and retrieved via a SmartMedia storage card. The DTXTREME IIS will connect directly to a PC or Mac computer via an external MIDI interface or the integrated TO HOST connection for editing or downloading Web content.
"With the new Yamaha Motif sounds, the incredible feeling pads and unique high hat controller, you can get a professional sounding electronic kit without breaking the bank," states Jim Haler, product manager, Yamaha Drums. "The DTXTREME IIS puts that technology into one great package, and makes it accessible."

I am interested in your Yamaha lls DTXTREME electronic drum set. Can these be plugged into an input side of a big stereo set up or is it necessary to buy an amp?

Hi Greg,

Don't know how old your post is , but Ill try to answer your question anyway.

The DTXtreme IIs COULD be played through a decent stereo system . . . but . . . . Be warned that the powerful punch that this kit, or any electronic drum set produces, will likely vaporize your speakers if high volume is maintained. Even one hit from the kick could spell disaster for your speakers if level/volume too high. The kick drum is usually the real killer to speakers.

More appropriate would a self contained, 2 or 3 way powered speaker system [built in amplification] [15" woofer would be best ] or PA system for musical instrument reproduction.
There are now many amplified systems made for electronic drums. Roland, Yamaha, Peavey, Soundtech, JBL, Behringer . . . just to name a few.

Another option, especially if you are in a "no noise zone" is to utilize the headphone output of the drum sound module. This can be great for practicing at home because you are the only one that can hear it ! The DTXtreme sounds fantastic though a good set of cans!

Cooler yet , you can also utilize the aux INPUT to pipe the output of a cd player ot tape deck directly into the sound module. You then can jam along with your favorite music, hearing it and your drums mixed in the headphones or amplifier/speaker you use. Aux input level and headphone level controls are provide to balance your mix.

Good luck . . . . You wont regret the DTXtreme IIs !
