the Floor Tom in Drum Rhythms
The floor tom sounds very much like a bass drum. The main difference is that you play it with a stick instead of a beater. This makes the sound a little more percussive (more higher frequencies). The beater of a bass drum makes a softer lower sound.
The floor tom can be used like any other tom; for fills or single hits. But also for the rhythm. Just like you would use a hihat or ride cymbal. Here's a basic example of how the floor tom is used in a drum rhythm.
