Roland reinvents electronic cymbals
When Roland released the V--drums in 1997, drummers around the world instantly recognized this explosive set as the dawn of a new era in electronic percussion. With new V-Cymbals,Roland takes the V-drum revolution several steps further, providing dynamic new electronic hi-hat,crash and ride cymbals which faithfully recreate acoustic cymbal dimensions, movements, inertia and timbre changes. The circular V-Cymbals are patterned closely after their acoustic counterparts, offering a natural-feeling rebound, appropriate dimensions, and most importantly, the inertia and natural movement of a “swinging ” cymbal..The advantage, however,is that these cymbals are almost silent.A concentrated mass around the rim of the V-Cymbals ensures uniform sensing, and even allows cymbal “chokes ” for dynamic performances. The new V-Cymbals are compatible with all Roland electronic percussion modules, and come in three distinct types:the CY-12H V-Cymbal Hi-Hat,the CY-14C V-Cymbal Crash, and the incredible CY-15R V-Cymbal Ride. The CY-12H V-Cymbal Hi-Hat is a 12-inch electronic hi-hat pad with a beveled edge for an extremely realistic playing feel and a natural rebound.A dual-trigger system with individual sensors for the edge and the bow of the cymbal permit expressive tonal changes, and the CY-12H is designed to work perfectly with Roland ’s highly acclaimed FD-7 Hi-Hat Controller.
The CY-14C V-Cymbal Crash is a 14-inch electronic crash cymbal which responds to strikes with acoustic cymbal-type movement and inertia. In other words, this cymbal can “swing.” The CY--14C employs a dual-trigger system with individual sensors for the edge and the bow of the cymbal, and sounds can be assigned separately to each for maximum expression. This system also incorporates a sensor for cymbal “chokes,”just like an acoustic cymbal. The incredible CY-15R is a 15-inch electronic ride cymbal with the same movement as an acoustic ride. A selectable dual-trigger system (edge/bow or bow/bell)allows for use as a ride cymbal or a large crash cymbal.Better still, simultaneous three-way sensing (edge/bow/bell)is possible with the CY-15R using the V-drums TD-10 sound module equipped with the latest version of TDW-1 Wave and System Expansion Board (the TDW-1 with V-Cymbal Control – see dealer for details)).Conquering the “final frontier ” of electronic cymbal development, the CY-15R even includes positional sensing on the bow section of the cymbal, allowing for incremental tonal changes in the manner of an acoustic ride.
